Transportation
Innu travelled hundreds of kilometres each year.
During summer, Innu travelled across rivers using canoes constructed from birchbark.
Travelling through deep snow in winter is challenging. Innu create and used over 8 different styles and shapes of snowshoes for winter travel. These were made from birch or tamarack wood, with caribou-hide webbing.
To transport heavy loads during winter, Innu built toboggans and sleds made from wood, caribou hides, and antlers. Innu pulled the toboggans using a thong made from caribou hide.
