Inuit travelled over vast distances to obtain resources or visit other families. Inuit created various types of transportation.
When hunting in winter, Inuit used
kamutet (sleds) and dog teams on
snow and ice.

To travel by water, Inuit developed the kajait (kayak).
To transport large groups of people, Inuit developed the umiak, a boat that could hold up to 20 people. Umiak were also used to hunt large mammals like whales.
