Transportation
The forest was a source of materials for building different forms of transportation. Cedar and birchbark were used to build canoes. Birchbark is waterproof and flexible, making it perfect for canoes. Cedar was easily split to form different parts of the canoe frame. Together, these materials made light, but sturdy canoes. Beech trees were used to make toboggans and snowshoes for winter travel.
