Food
Mi'kmaq planned and organized migrations to locations where food was available at different times of the year. Groups returned each season to same area.
spring/summer
- moved to coastal areas to fish for cod, salmon, smelt, herring, sturgeon, striped bass, flounder, brook trout, mackerel, shad, capelin, skate, sea urchin, halibut, plaice, squid, and shellfish.
- gathered edible plants and berries
winter/fall
- hunted caribou, moose, beaver
- hunted on winter ice for walrus and seals
- fished for salmon, herring, brook trout, eel
