Dwellings
Beothuk built a variety of dwellings.
For shelter in summer, Beothuk constructed cone-shaped mamateeks covered with layers of birchbark and moss.
In winter, Beothuk built larger mamateeks that were insulated by piling soil around the outside base and covering the inside walls with animal skins.
Beothuk also created other structures, such as smoke houses to dry meat and storage houses where dried meat was kept in birch rind boxes for winter use.
